Atilla Soran was named president-elect of the Senologic International Society

Atilla Soran, clinical professor of surgery in the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, was named president-elect of the Senologic International Society (SIS), a federation of more than 100 scientific organizations dedicated to advancing the study of breast health care worldwide. Soran currently serves as the organization’s general secretary.

A world-renowned breast surgeon, Soran is globally recognized as an expert in surgery for metastatic breast cancer, granulomatous mastitis and lymphedema. In addition to his work with SIS, he has an extensive history of participating in scientific research committees, including the American Society of Breast Disease, the American Society of Clinical Oncology Breast Cancer Symposium Program and the National Consortium of Breast Centers International Program.

Soran earned a medical degree from the University of Ankara in Turkey and completed residencies at St. Mary's Hospital in London and Ankara Numune Teaching and Research Hospital in Turkey. He was also a fellow at Pitt’s School of Medicine.
