The University of Pittburgh’s cricket club team has earned its first regional championship title after winning the Collegiate Cricket League’s Mid-Atlantic Championship, an achievement that marks the club’s debut on a national competitive stage.

Founded in 2022, the student-run club has grown steadily in membership and competitive strength. The Mid-Atlantic Championship was its largest tournament yet, featuring nine collegiate teams from across the region.

Pitt played seven group-stage matches at Hanson Cricket Field in Hashburn, Virginia, and finished with a 6-1 record, securing a place in the playoff rounds. In the semifinal, Pitt defeated Penn State to advance to the championship match. The team then clinched the regional title with a win over Rutgers.

The victory represents a major milestone for the club, which has expanded quickly over the past three years as cricket gains momentum on U.S. college campuses. The team will compete next in the Collegiate Cricket League National Championship, scheduled for the spring semester.
