4 Pitt faculty won the Provost’s Award for Excellence in Doctoral Mentoring

The Cathedral of Learning towers over the Oakland neighborhood.

Four University of Pittsburgh faculty members earned the 2026 Provost’s Award for Excellence in Doctoral Mentoring.

The annual award honors faculty for mentoring doctoral students, helping them grow as scholars, researchers and professionals.

The 2026 recipients are:

  • Michael Gunzenhauser, professor and senior associate dean of academic and faculty affairs in the School of Education
  • Steffi Oesterreich, Shear Family Foundation Chair for Breast Cancer Research in the School of Medicine
  • Lisa Rohan, professor of pharmaceutical sciences in the School of Pharmacy
  • Albert To, William Kepler Whiteford Professor in the Swanson School of Engineering
