Mohammed Bamyeh, professor in the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Sociology, was awarded the 2025 Kuwait Prize in economic and social sciences for sociology by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences.
Awarded annually since 1979, the Kuwait Prize is one of the Arab world’s most prestigious scientific honors, recognizing distinguished contributions across fields including the natural sciences, social sciences and the arts. The prize carries an award of roughly $100,000, along with a gold medal and certificate of recognition.
Bamyeh’s scholarship spans sociology, religion, knowledge and social transformation, with a particular focus on revolutions and the Arab world. He is the author and editor of 12 books, including “Lifeworlds of Islam,” “The Ends of Globalization” and “The Social Origins of Islam,” and serves as editor of International Sociology Reviews.
Bamyeh previously was awarded an Einstein Fellowship in 2024 at the Free University of Berlin.
