Poushalee Banerjee won an American Fisheries Society student writing award

Poushalee Banerjee, a doctoral student in the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Geology and Environmental Science, received an honorable mention in the American Fisheries Society’s 2026 Student Writing Contest.

The organization promotes scientific research and sustainable management of fisheries resources and is a leading publisher of books and peer-reviewed journals. The Student Writing Contest recognizes students who excel in communicating fishery-related research.

Banerjee’s article, “Ancient Giants and the Biological Bulldozer: How Can Mapping Help in Imperiled Eastern Hellbender Survival?”, summarizes original scientific research for a general audience.

Banerjee is also the recipient of the Gary Sitler Graduate Award issued by the Department of Geology and Environmental Science and the Cooper Award from the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Fisheries Society. She will be acknowledged at the American Fisheries Society annual meeting in August.
