Janina López, a graduate student in the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences’ Department of History of Art and Architecture, received a prestigious predoctoral fellowship from the Center for Advanced Study of the Visual Arts.
The center, the research institute for the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., awarded only 13 predoctoral fellowships this year. The one won by López is a two-year Wyeth Fellowship, which is intended to support a doctoral dissertation about the art of the United States.
López’s dissertation focuses on the Royal Chicano Air Force, an artist collective based in Sacramento, California, exploring their role as artist-educators in the changing educational environment of 1970s Northern California. She is currently the Will Barnet Predoctoral Fellow at the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
