Undergraduate Alexandre Massip earned a national environmental fellowship

University of Pittsburgh student Alexandre Massip has been selected for the Rachel Carson Council’s National Environmental Leadership Fellowship, a yearlong program supporting students focused on environmental education, advocacy and policy.

Massip, a junior in the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences and David C. Frederick Honors College, is majoring in environmental science and public policy as well as pursuing certificates in sustainability and geographic information systems.

He is one of 39 fellows in the council’s 2026-27 cohort, its largest to date, drawn from campuses across the country. The fellowship provides financial support, mentorship from Rachel Carson Council staff and hands-on guidance as each fellow develops an environmental project for their campus or community.

The fellows kicked off the program in July in Washington, D.C., at the council’s American Environmental Leadership Institute, a training program in advocacy and organizing. The Rachel Carson Council, founded in 1965, is a national environmental nonprofit that continues the work of biologist and author Rachel Carson.
