Two Pitt faculty members received honors from the American Chemical Society for 2027.

Angela M. Gronenborn, Distinguished Professor of Structural Biology in the School of Medicine, won the Nakanishi Prize, which recognizes significant work that extends chemical and spectroscopic methods to the study of important biological phenomena and confers a $5,000 prize. Gronenborn, who is also the UPMC Rosalind Franklin Professor, studies the structure of large molecules.

Kay M. Brummond, professor in the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Chemistry, won an Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award, which recognizes excellence in organic chemistry and confers a $5,000 prize as well as a $40,000 unrestricted research grant. Brummond focuses on several areas of organic chemistry.

Gronenborn will be honored alongside other ACS awardees at an awards ceremony on March 23, 2027, in conjunction with the ACS Spring Meeting in New Orleans. Brummond, as part of her award, will deliver an award address at the ACS Fall Meeting’s Arthur C. Cope Symposium.
