Upcoming Flu Shot Clinics

As the COVID-19 Medical Resource Office noted recently, cold and flu season is fast approaching and there is no way to distinguish cold or flu from COVID-19 by symptoms alone. It’s vital—this year more than ever—to get seasonal flu shots.

Most Pitt students, staff and faculty are able to get flu shots through on- or near-campus clinics and pharmacies. Those who are UPMC Health Plan members can get them at no-cost.

Due to COVID-19, flu shot clinics are offered only at limited dates and times for the Pittsburgh and Bradford campuses. The Greensburg, Johnstown and Titusville campuses will not host on-campus flu shot clinics this fall; vaccines are available at local Giant Eagle or Rite Aid pharmacies.

All COVID-19 safety protocols will be in effect; all individuals are required to wear a face covering and observe physical distancing guidelines. If you are feeling ill on the day of your appointment, please do not attend the flu shot clinic.

Students

Students can receive free seasonal flu vaccine shots through the Student Health Service by appointment.

In September, shots are being administered outside Posvar Hall under the tent by appointment only on Sept. 22, Sept. 29, Oct. 13 and Oct. 20 from 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m.

All students must present their Pitt ID card to receive a free flu shot. Visit the student health flu shots clinic page for details.

Faculty and staff

Advance registration via OHR’s website is required to attend a flu shot clinic on the Pittsburgh campus. The registration form allows you to select a date and timeslot for your appointment.

Upcoming flu shot clinic dates for the Pittsburgh campus are:

  • Wednesday, Sept. 30, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Petersen Events Center
  • Wednesday, Oct. 7, 6:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Petersen Events Center

Important note: If you are currently working off-campus and are planning to travel to campus for the flu shot clinic, you are required to fill out the Daily COVID-19 Health Check prior to coming to campus on the day of your appointment. The Daily COVID-19 Health Check is also available when logging in to my.pitt.edu or from the Pitt Mobile app.

Visit the Office of Human Resources’ website for general information regarding flu shot clinics on and off campus.

Bradford campus

Pitt–Bradford faculty, staff and students can schedule an appointment to get flu shots on one of the dates listed below. Users should print and complete the consent form on the first page of the scheduler link and bring both the consent form and their health insurance cards to the appointment.

Clinics will be held in the University Room, Frame-Westerberg Commons, and administered by Rite-Aid Pharmacy staff. Dates are as follows:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 6, 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 14, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Off-site information

Faculty, students and staff who cannot make it to an on-campus clinic or would prefer to get flu shots off-campus and are UPMC Health Plan members may do so from a participating provider at no out-of-pocket cost. Members also may get a flu shot with no out-of-pocket cost at Giant Eagle or Rite Aid pharmacies. Simply present your UPMC Health Plan member ID card at the time you receive your flu shot and you will not have to submit a receipt or any other additional paperwork to your UPMC Health Plan.
