"Black Masculinity and Intimacy: Discussing Jay-Z's 4:44"
Gabby Yearwood

In Masculinity Studies it is well agreed that men make men. But what does this making look like? What is produced? How and when do men reflect on their making? What and where are the spaces that men share their making? What and where are the spaces they are made?

In the recent release of Jay-Z’s album 4:44 we see black men reflecting on learning intimacy. This video will serve as a point of departure to engage in an open discussion on blackness, masculinity and intimacy. Where it might fail but also where might it succeed.

After a few introductory remarks, Gabby Yearwood will lead an open discussion on the experiences and process of learning intimacy amongst black men and what this might say about black masculinity.
