12 Pitt students earned Gilman Scholarships

Twelve University of Pittsburgh undergraduates have been awarded Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships for the March 2026 application cycle.

The competitive, merit-based U.S. Department of State program supports students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad, providing them with skills critical to American national security and economic prosperity. The department awards nearly 3,000 students with up to $5,000 in funding each year.

Here are Pitt’s newest winners and their study abroad destinations:

Bao Chau, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a junior in the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences and the David C. Frederick Honors College majoring in mathematics–economics and minoring in applied statistics (Belgium)

Riley Collins, of Wheeling, West Virginia, a junior in the School of Computing and Information and the Frederick Honors College majoring in information science and minoring in Chinese (China)

Ivy Fox-Hays, of Lincoln, Nebraska, a senior in the Dietrich School majoring in the biological sciences and minoring in chemistry and French (Senegal)

Catalina Giner-Calero, of San Juan, Puerto Rico, a sophomore in the Dietrich School majoring in psychology and law, criminal justice and society (South Korea)

Guadalupe Gonzalez, of Lehighton, Pennsylvania, a junior in the School of Nursing’s baccalaureate program (Netherlands)

Luke Grella, of Hampton, New Hampshire, a sophomore in the Dietrich School majoring in philosophy (Germany)

Asma Heggy, of Latrobe, Pennsylvania, a junior in the Dietrich School majoring in psychology and minoring in Arabic (Tunisia & Italy)

Jaimarie Hiraldo, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, a senior in the School of Computing and Information and the Frederick Honors College majoring in digital narrative and interactive design and minoring in information science, with a certificate in digital media (South Korea)

Jerry Li, of Pittsburgh, a junior in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences and the Frederick Honors College majoring in rehabilitation science and minoring in pathokinesiology and business (United Kingdom)

Sophia Quinn, of Warrington, Pennsylvania, a senior in the College of General Studies majoring in media and professional communications and minoring in gender, sexuality and women’s studies and creative writing, with a certificate in corporate/community relations (United Kingdom)

Neha Viswanath, of Warrington, Pennsylvania, a senior in the Dietrich School majoring in data science and minoring in anthropology (Germany)

Sophia Wang, of Edison, New Jersey, a sophomore in the Dietrich School and the Frederick Honors College majoring in molecular biology and minoring in political science (Bolivia)
