Larry E. Davis, dean of Pitt’s School of Social Work from 2001-2018 and founding director of its Center on Race and Social Problems, died on March 30. Members of Pitt’s community are sharing reflections about Davis and his many contributions to the University and race, civil rights and social justice.

Pitt and Carnegie Mellon University will use their wealth of scholarly expertise in a new Collaboratory Against Hate Research and Action Center. Its goals: to study extreme hate and its impact and develop tools that provide effective intervention for groups ranging from law enforcement to parents.

In 2019, Pitt social work faculty surveyed the mental health well-being of staff at social service agencies and schools as the community approached the first anniversary of the Tree of Life tragedy. The data led to enhanced training and treatment for staff at these agencies, two years later.
