16 Pitt students presented at Data Science Day 2025

RSD scholar speaks with professors

In March, the University of Pittsburgh hosted its second annual Data Science Day, bringing together students, faculty and industry leaders to discuss the future of responsible data science and ethical AI.

A partnership between Responsible Data Science (RSD) at Pitt and the School of Computing and Information, the event tackled topics like sustainability, accessibility and institutional innovation, all while fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration.

“There are few, if any, places in the world that can connect this many corners of the University and community together so coherently, effectively and efficiently,” said Michael Colaresi, associate vice provost for data science and William S. Dietrich II Professor of Political Science. “Under the leadership of Nora Mattern, Lisa Parker and Kendra Oliver, the RDS Scholars program represents why Pitt is so special and is leading in responsible data science.”

Sixteen RSD scholars presented at the event:

  • Kennedy Aderogba
  • Sapna Chokshi
  • Emily Durning
  • Abraham Eldo
  • Juliet Hull
  • Lena Latef
  • Pip Mostern
  • Ifeoluwa Olusoga
  • Jiri Palayekar
  • Krit Ravichander
  • Lauren Rubovitz
  • Carter Smith
  • Devon Smith
  • Ariana Villa
  • Zhuoran Wang
  • Abby Zimmerman

"The RDS Scholars program allowed me insight into the language of data science and how challenges with evolving data tech can be molded into opportunities for responsible innovation,” said senior Juliet Hull. “I developed a framework Dick’s Sporting Goods, a positive corporate presence in Pittsburgh and a strong partner of the University, and dove into their existing systems to understand the assets they already have that can be harnessed for purposeful, intentional responsible data science."
