Vehicle safety starts with 3 simple steps

A parking lot near Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall

Pitt Police and Pitt Mobility have teamed up to join the national Hide Lock Take campaign, empowering the campus community with simple, proactive steps to prevent vehicle theft.

By following these three steps — hide your things, lock your vehicle and take your keys — you can reduce the likelihood of thieves targeting your car and help make our community even safer. Now, you’ll also find branded Hide Lock Take signage at University-owned parking lots to help you remember.

Other safety tips

If you keep any personal belongings in your car, make sure they are neatly tucked away and hidden. You can also use a steering wheel lock, like the Club, as an additional deterrent. Hiding a GPS tracker, like an AirTag or Tile, in your vehicle helps police track it down sooner if you do experience auto theft.

If your vehicle or items from the vehicle are stolen, please contact Pitt Police at 412-624-2121 immediately.
