Workshop: Protecting and Preserving Your Digital Life

January 26, 2018 - 1:00pm to 3:00pm

It’s no surprise that more and more of our time is spent making digital records- everything from research papers and data to smartphone photos and social media posts. But what have you done to make your digital material safe and accessible in the future, besides storing everything in the cloud and hoping for the best?

This workshop will focus on a simple four-step process to preserving your digital material from the dangers of benign neglect, software and hardware obsolescence, loss in an avalanche of too much data and bit rot.

Participants are highly encouraged to bring a laptop to take part in in-class activities and demonstrations, which will include walkthroughs of how to protect social media, cloud-based, and research data records.
