Activist Wangari Muta Maathai (A&S ’65G) was the first African American woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize.

Kayla Scoggin, a 21-year-old urban studies major, will enter service with the Peace Corps in Uganda upon graduation this spring. Her internship through the Elsie Hillman Civic Forum helped prepare her for her new role.

The new space, meant to forge connections and encourage cross-campus collaboration, is the result of efforts led by the Graduate and Professional Student Government.

Held each year in the Cathedral of Learning, the Holiday Open House will feature performances, food and crafts, as well as tours of the festively decorated Nationality Rooms. This Sunday’s events also include a sneak peek at the newest room.

Graduating senior Andin Fosam made her mark at Pitt in athletics and academics. She plans to use her expertise in both to explore the relationships among physical activity, metabolism and conditions such as diabetes and obesity.
