The Schools of Education and Social Work, in partnership with the Homewood Children’s Village and Pitt’s Community Engagement Center in Homewood, have been collectively selected as finalists for the William T. Grant Foundation’s Institutional Challenge Grant.

The professional training grant is funded by the federal Office of Special Education Programs for $1.1 million over the next five years.

The Pitt Education and School of Medicine researchers will receive $3.4 million over five years for the project.

The grant, which totals more than $1 million, will operate the program as a collaboration between Pitt’s Special Education Program and the Center for Urban Education.

The $2.5 million award will fund research to expand our understanding of teachers as learners.

The School of Education program works to develop resources to improve the lives of children and families in key areas.
