The former Johnson & Johnson executive has helped to fund dozens of Pitt programs.

The Frederick Honors College scholars presented their research to international leaders at the United Nations’ Permanent Forum on People of African Descent.

Sophomore Alanna Howe will attend a two-month intensive language course, study at a German university and complete a mechanical engineering internship.

The civics enthusiast, Brackenridge Fellow and social justice activist was recognized for his commitment to increasing local engagement among Pitt students.

As recipients of one of the University’s most prestigious awards, the students will conduct independent research, scholarship or creative work under the guidance of a faculty mentor.

The awards cover cost-of-living and other associated expenses for students participating in congressional or public service internships.

The summer program is a collaborative partnership between the David C. Frederick Honors College, Swanson School of Engineering, Pitt’s Office of Research and the Idaho National Laboratory.

These 13 students and alumni will travel across the globe to study, teach and conduct research.

The Frederick Honors College will fund their summer work on a long-term sustainable project.

The undergraduates will produce a piece of creative work under the mentorship of a faculty member or subject-matter expert.
