While Pennsylvania was in the midst of COVID-19 shelter-in-place orders, Pitt senior Gina Watkins was digging into the reasoning behind past quarantine measures—finding racism and xenophobia were major players in policy decisions.

Mari Webel will continue her work that melds history and public health as Pitt’s first-ever Andrew W. Mellon Foundation New Directions Fellow.

The new academic year brings the reveal of renovations at Hillman Library, updated computer labs and study areas, and new green spaces for gathering, among dozens of other projects.

Graduating senior Andin Fosam made her mark at Pitt in athletics and academics. She plans to use her expertise in both to explore the relationships among physical activity, metabolism and conditions such as diabetes and obesity.
