5 Pitt health sciences faculty members received 2025 Ascending Star Awards

Five faculty members in the University of Pittsburgh schools of the health sciences received 2025 Ascending Star Awards.

Established in 2022 by Anantha Shekhar, senior vice chancellor for the health sciences and John and Gertrude Petersen Dean of the School of Medicine, the awards recognize highly productive and creative mid-career faculty. Each awardee receives a $25,000 award and will give a research talk at 3:30 p.m. in Alan Magee Scaife Hall, room 3785.

The awardees and their talk dates are:

Shari Rogal, associate professor of medicine, surgery, and clinical and translational science in the School of Medicine, will present on Aug. 28.

Sonja Swanson, associate professor of epidemiology in the School of Public Health, will present on Sept. 4.

Alison Kohan, associate professor of medicine and immunology in the School of Medicine, will present on Oct. 3.

Zachary Freyberg, associate professor of psychiatry and cell biology in the School of Medicine, will present on Oct. 23.

William Evans, associate professor of communication sciences and disorders in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, will present on Nov. 7.
