Alexander Deiters earned an American Chemical Society award

Alexander Deiters

Alexander Deiters, Distinguished Professor of Chemistry in the Kenneth P. Deitrich School of Arts and Sciences, was awarded a 2026 Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award from the American Chemical Society (ACS).

He’s among 10 chemists from around the country recognized for excellence in organic chemistry. It’s his second recent ACS honor, as Deiters received the Pittsburgh Award from the society’s local branch in 2023.

Deiters joined the University of Pittsburgh in 2013 as a professor of chemistry. An expert in medicinal chemistry and protein and nucleic acid engineering, he has presented more than 180 research seminars and has published six book chapters, 14 review articles and more than 190 peer-review papers. Deiters is also the co-founder of Monarch Therapeutics, a Pitt startup that is working to translate a new modular technology to deliver immunotherapies to cancer cells from the lab to the market.
