Stay aware while navigating Fifth Ave. construction

A drone photo of Fifth Avenue

Because of the rapidly evolving nature of the Pittsburgh Regional Transit University Line construction project and the impact to pedestrians and motorists on Fifth Avenue, Pitt’s Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management wants to remind the Pittsburgh campus community and visitors to the Oakland neighborhood that public safety is a shared responsibility. Pitt’s pedestrian safety team is actively engaged with the City of Pittsburgh Department of Mobility and Infrastructure, Pittsburgh Regional Transit and its contractor to ensure campus concerns are being heard and acted upon.

Drivers must always obey traffic laws and pay attention to additional pedestrian foot traffic and cyclists on campus. Pedestrians must always cross at a crosswalk and allow for extra travel time to class and other destinations in case of disruptions to regular routes.

As always, all motorists, cyclists and pedestrians should be aware of their surroundings and not be distracted by phones, earbuds or other devices when driving, biking or walking across campus. Keep your phones down and your eyes up.
