Pitt Public Health established a new award, funded through the Jewish Healthcare Foundation

The University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health will use a $15,000 grant through the Jewish Healthcare Foundation (JHF) to establish the Justin Reid Ehrenwerth Emerging Scholar Award. The award will go to high school students from under-resourced schools in the Pittsburgh area, allowing them to attend Pitt’s Public Health Science Academy.

This initiative will provide local students with access to advanced public health research and education. Through the academy, scholars will receive hands-on research experience, mentorship and opportunities to present their work at national conferences.

The four-week summer program, held annually by the School of Public Health, provides a path forward to a rewarding career in public health and other scientific fields. The four-week program allows students to explore the core concepts of today’s most pressing public health issues, apply public health knowledge through hands-on projects and experience real-world applications through practice and field trips.
