Jonathan Rubin, a professor in the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Mathematics, is the founding editor-in-chief for the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics’ (SIAM) newest applied mathematics journal.
The SIAM Journal on Life Sciences (SIALS) will provide a platform for research that features the substantive use of quantitative methods — including modeling, computing and mathematical analysis — in the study of biological systems and their applications. The journal will also showcase the development of new mathematical models of biological systems as well as the development and application of methodology for the analysis of such models.
Rubin, who joined the Dietrich School’s faculty in 2000, is also a graduate training faculty member at the Center for Neuroscience, a member of the Center for the Basis of Neural Cognition, an affiliate of the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine and an SIAM fellow. He most often works on theoretical and applied problems coming from neuroscience.
SIALS began accepting submissions in July and aims to publish its first issue in early 2026.
